There are not that many museums in Odessa and the museums that exists are often very old and have poor economy. Never the less there are a few interresting ones and here we have gathered the most important museums of Odessa.

Russian and Ukrainian art are well covered in the Art Museum. Its maze of over 15 rooms on two floors has treasures which run from 15th century icons onwards and includes works by Ayvazovsky and Repin. The department of Russian art of 18th and 19th centuries represents remarkable works of best masters of that epoch such as LevitskiyBorovikovskiyKiprenskiy and Tropinin. The building is the former palace of the countess O.S. Naryshkina, and it was built in the 1820s. Countess Naryshkina was the daughter of the very rich Polish count Felix Pototskiy.

The Museum of Western and Oriental Arts is housed in an old mansion. Upstairs there are 14 rooms full of works by European masters such as Halls, Caravaggio, Gvardi, Bellotto and Canaletto. On the ground floor there is a smaller exhibition of oriental crafts and paintings.

Odessa Pushkin Museum is a museum dedicated to the Russian poet Alexander Pushkin. The museum displays original manuscripts from Pushkin's writings, and a copy of a page from his famous book ‘Eugene Onegin’.

The Odessa Regional History Museum located in mansion that was built in 1876 and the museum was founded in 1955. The museums has 12 halls and show more than four thousand articles which reflect the history from the 14th century up untill now.

Among its collections is a fascinating assortment of displays covering all aspects of the city's history, including old maps, photos, furniture, and household objects.

Odessa Archaeological Museum is one of the oldest in Ukraine. It was founded in 1825. Its development was promoted by the Odessa Society of Antiquity and History, which had the right to carry out excavations in the Northern Black Sea region.

There are more than 160 000 items in one of the largest collections of ancient items from the Black Sea region. This is used as source of information about ancient history of region.

The museum possesses rich collection of archaeological relics of primitive and classical culture, such as relics of ancient Egypt, ancient Greece and ancient Rome.
